Remote desktops

Connect to Windows machines over RDP, in their own window or inside a tab, through an SSH jump host if you need one.

Remote desktops (RDP) are hosts like any other: they sit in your groups next to your SSH hosts and open from Ctrl+K. In the host form, choose Remote desktop instead of SSH terminal.

Two ways to open one

In its own window, with FreeRDP 3 (freerdp on Fedora, freerdp3-x11 on Debian and Ubuntu, brew install freerdp on macOS):

  • shared folders, copy and paste of text and files, sound and microphone,
  • printers, smart cards, USB devices (beta),
  • one program only (RemoteApp), quality presets, RD Gateway, multiple monitors.

Inside a TuxShell tab beta, built in and with nothing to install: copy and paste of text and files, and it resizes with the tab.

Through a jump host

Set an SSH jump host in the host form to reach a desktop that’s only reachable through SSH. The jump host needs a key or the agent.

Certificates

Certificates are pinned, and you’re warned if one changes.

Importing

Remmina connections and Windows .rdp files import with their settings. See Importing hosts.

Passwords

1Password and KeePassXC references work for remote desktops in their own window; in a tab you type the password.
